kick summary & thanks!
Plenty of replies to kickers, ridecampers, seems I'm not alone.
To summarize:
1. all horses have the potential to kick, regardless of how calm and
polite they usually are or ever were in the past.
2. We all need to follow basic common sense rules about being in
kicking range around horses...(defense, defense, defense..)
3. Recognize and pay attention to all of the signs, from ear pin
meanies to stress level indicators of all kinds. Watch out when that
adrenaline gets going! (no one told me this one..<g>)
4. Many competitive horses go through this phase and can outgrow it
with experience and the right training.
5. Many horses never outgrow it and become kickers or are confirmed
kickers for other reasons.
6. There is no absolute cure for the kicking horse, the horse is too
complex and individualistic. (my own summary, too..I'm allowed!)
I'll let you'all know how we do by end of season,....and thanks!!!
