RE: Derby Ditch Results

We would like to thank all the people who braved the weather and road
conditions, on Friday, and made it to the Derby Ditch this weekend.  For
those of you that were there, it was a great day for an endurance ride and
despite all the worry about a muddy course, the footing was probably the
best it's ever been! In fact the ground and weather was one of the best in
the past 28 years of the ride!  Derby Ditch is the 1st leg of the Triple
Crown, next ride being the NASTR 75, June 13, and ending it with VC100 on
September 19.  For people that are interested the NASTR 75 ride also has a
50 miler and a 25 miler.  The awards banquet on Saturday evening was one of
the best in the last 28 years, full of such warmth and enthusiasm that it
was enjoyed by all! The pot-luck dinner was one not to be missed, the main
dishes and desserts were fit for kings and queens, this group of people
could go into business for themselves as professional caterers.  Many
laughs, tears, and heart felt feelings, especially when Ron Waltenspiel gave
such an uplifting talk about the loss of their daughter, yet in such a
manner that it made you feel glad that you are a part of such a wonderful
group of people. We want to thank Ruth and Ron for being such inspiring
people to this sport!  We would also like to thank all of the volunteers,
Terry Engels, our ride manager, NASTR members and others, for all the help
that we got on this ride. Without these people donating their time to help,
we would be unable to put these rides on.  Many thanks to you all, and
especially to Gene Myers for his award winning Oscar presentation of
thank-yous, thank-yous & more thank-yous, who had eveyone rolling on the
floor laughing, oh, thank-you Gene!!!  We would also like to mention to you
that the NASTR club will be holding their 3rd annual auction on May 18.  We
have many items to be auctioned, including a straight Spanish Arabian 1997
colt, donated by Chris Davidson.  For more information about the NASTR club,
