Not commonly used by brand inspectors. This is important. In many western
states any horse that goes through a public sale or a slaughterhouse must be
inspected by a brand inspector, and records must be kept. Part of the
problem with the microchip is the lack of uniform system. In addition, a
brand can be read from a distance. The brand inspectors will not look for
lip tatoos either.
