Re: Negative Treatment Towards LD riders and horses!

In a message dated 98-03-29 14:01:11 EST, you write:

<< to many riders in limited distance are not experienced enough and can hurt
their horses. >>
In this vein, it is totally without conscience to hear an experienced rider
then tell newbies not to waste their time on LD - go straight to 50s. Well,
then, here we would have all of these people in "training rides", ostensibly,
now hurting their horses over twice the distance. That never made any sense
whatsoever to me. A training ride should then BE a training ride - complete
with all riders of all distances exhibiting poor manners and unsafe behaviour.
The original post here pretty much said it all. No one has the God given right
to "go first", and I have to say that on several occasions I have gotten in
teh face of some hot shot 50 miler who tried to shove my horse away from the
watering trough. People, learn some manners yourself and then teach YOUR HORSE
the same manners. My HORSE doesn't know you are going firther - he or she only
knows that he or she is EQUALLY as thirsty and was there before YOU.
Conversely, when your horse has had a drink, MOVE> Come back in a few minutes
if you think he wants more, but I can't TELL you how many times I had to sit
and wait (generally with the stallion, but also with the mares) whilst soemone
inconsiderate person just stood there, eating their snack while their horse
just kind of droole dinto the water trough, clearly finished drinking and now
just DREAAMMMINNNG! The solution?? How about some courtesy, common sense and
perhaps a little humility> methinks these things should go hand in hand - at
least we are trying to teach our kids that. Interestingly enough, the BEST
ride was when I took my little daughter - more people seemed to want to look
out for the wee one. Hmm. I guess then MY safety is of no consequence.
Just saying folks - common sense and courtesy - and we will ALL GET ALONG!
