The only award that the AERC mandates is a completion award;  and it
should stay that way.

The AERC "awards" (with bonus mileage points) both top ten overall and top
ten within your weight division.  So, by definition, all competitors are
competing both "within their class" (i.e. their weight division) and in
the open division.  What more awards do people want from the AERC?

Rides can give other awards for whatever they want (and many give one for
the team that finishes last, came from the furthest away,, had the best
trail manners...).
