In regards to the discussion on oil fed for it's fat content & to raise the daily calories:
1 TBS of oil is the equivalent of about 120 grams of fat, regardless of the type of oil.
But in "unrefined" corn oil, the nutrients (like E) are still in there....and even finicky eaters LOVE unrefined corn oil. It tastes really good .. I've seen horses that won't touch store-bought oil, but slurp up the unrefined corn oil.
The oils bought in grocery stores are all solvent (heat) processed with no nutritive value at all. They are truly "just fat" and alot of horses won't eat "just fat", plus they taste yucky.
The price of a gallon of unrefined California is about 3X the price in the
grocery store variety but it's worth it.
