Re: Anglos
I have an Anglo (more or less) out of an arab mare by an appendix
(mostly TB) quarthorse stud; and Dakota aka Spudnuts is out of a TB mare
by an Arab stallion.
You generally tend to get more size if you use a TB mare on an arab
stallion, at least initially, because size of the foal is dependent in
large part on the size of the uterus holding it. Which is also why
foals from older brrodmares are often larger than maiden foals.
However, alot of foals from small mamas will realy outgrow their dams as
they mature. Cato is 15.2 and his mom was around 14.2-14.3. Dakota is
out of a 16.2 TB mare and at 23 months, is a very strong 15.2 and still
growing like a weed, so I suspect he will be larger than his daddy, who
is around 15.3-16 hands.
From what I was told in equine breeding classes, etc, I would guess that
if you're looking for a bigger horse, use a TB mare and a n arb stud.
If you want something a little more moderate in size but with some TB
qualities, use an arab mare with a TB stud.
This is just my own experience, there are probably exceptions (aren't
there always?)
Hope it helps a bit, anyway.
