Re: More from someone in the UAE:
Sure was nice to read this post! Thank you for posting it...it was well
written and wasn't saturated with "we/they" frettings. That, in and of
itself, gets SO old! And, no, I don't want to get involved in any flame-
filled "discussion" about "nationalistic" goals in endurance, thanks just the
same.
As evinced by the "leased" horses who competed in the UAE, sometimes
(emphasis on SOMETIMES), national boundaries and interests don't mean alot.
When there's a rider on your back, you would like to get through the "ride"
safely, smartly and in good time.
It appears m o s t of the horse did just that.
"Awesome" performances are sometimes separated from "okay" performances
by the courage of the horse and rider to "go for it".
The courage displayed by horse and rider teams willing to contest the
course at ANY hundred miler has always been something I have admired about
endurance horses and riders. At the WEC, the courage to "show up" and "put
up" (IMHO) couldn't possibly be for just money.
It is more important than that.
It was about "competing".
Horses are truly noble and above coveting money, new trailers or
saddles.
