Re: Around the Mountain & mental conditioning
Okay, okay. I've got to 'fess up. Though this exercise was done to
cheer up the *humans* on a miserable ride, not the equines.
Picture the first day of a rainy 2- day ride. With more rain forecast
for the next day. And mud hock deep, with some belly deep sink-holes.
Ick, you get the picture. About half way through day one I couldn't help
but get silly. I work in an elementary school, and my office is next to
the kindergarten classrooms. The result is that, for a 36 year old woman
with no children, I am unusually well versed in kindergarten songs. The
theme song for the weekend became "Leo the Lion"
Leo the Lion, he's the king of the jungle,
his jaws are big and wide! *ROAR* (complete with lion roar
impersonations)
Leo the Lion, his roar is a warning,
you better run and hide! *ROAR* (complete with lion roar
impersonations)
Repeat frequently, with everyone joining in as they learn the words.
Those shy about singing could at least join in the ROAR. :-)
The horses startled at first roar, but quickly became accustomed to what
their eccentric humans were doing. We were laughing so hard that the
rain no longer mattered... and then we were even more entertained by the
looks on the faces of hikers we encountered :-).
The moral is that it does *not* take much to amuse wet distance riders.
