In the CT region, we just don't have a problem with people whining about
placing.  I think I know why.  All of our rides, in the pre-ride meetings,
the RM states strongly that 25 mile rides are NOT endurance rides, and only
TRAINING rides.  If you want to run with the big boys, do a 50.

I've put on a big ride for ten years.  Only the 2nd year did I have someone
complain about not being awarded a first place.  I realized I did not
stress the above at the ride meeting very well that year.  Next year I 
made more of a point to mention this, and have had no complaints ever
since.

I do try to give nice completion awards and we do a BC just like the 50s.

RM, try to give this type of lecture at your ride meetings and see if this
helps!
