I have seen, and taken a couple of pictures of spotted horses in both Outer
and Inner Mongolia.  They were probably less than 14 hands and are what are
generally referred to as Mongolian War Ponies, descendants of those used by
Genghis Khan when  he conquered most of Asia in the in the early 13th Century.
As a breed they are really quite smooth, good natured and incredibly hardy.
