New To Endurance

I've recently gotten a new arabian gelding (Sam) because I'm very interested in endurance riding. He is 5 1/2 years old and is about 15 hands. I want to buy the proper saddle, briddle, etc. from the start so that things go as well as possible. At this point, I want a medium priced setup to determine if this is a sport that I will like. Can anyone give me advice based upon experience that will help me choose the proper equipment to get started?
