Regarding shims to fit saddles:
The dressage instructor I used to take lessons from was famous for using
shims. She had some thin, dense spongy material she cut from a large sheet in
all kinds of shapes. Various horses had their own sets of shims that were
labeled and used every time the horse was ridden.
Unfortunately, these shims tend to work their way out, and it was frequently
heard in the arena, "someone's lost their underwear!"
But seriously, does the fitter in Quebec consider the shims a device for
regular use, and if so, how are they kept in place?
