OVERALL BEST CONDITION:
There are no real rules about how to award Overall Best Condition on a multi-
day. Although I look for consistency, the bottom line is that I think about
what would happen if the Indians attacked the wagon train in the night after
the last day of the ride, which of the 5-day horses would I want to steal from
the owner and use to escape? The horse I chose had a very impressive record
throughout the entire ride. He won one day and also won BC. He Top Tenned 4
days out of 5. Of the days that he did not win BC, he was runner-up twice,
and had the high vet score the day that he didn't either win the award or be
judged runner-up. After the ride, his pulse was in the low 40's within 10
minutes, his ears were up, his metabolic signs were good, and he trotted out
as if he could keep right on doing this day after day. The only real change I
saw in this horse from the initial vet-in on Sunday to the end of the ride on
Friday was a bit of filling in his legs. He looked this good even though he
also achieved the overall fastest time. My choice for Overall Best Condition
for Lost Wagon Train 1998 was:
BRR AURBER LIGHTS!!
Congratulations Becky Fiedler on an outstanding job with Aurber.
