Your post re:ride refunds was well done...the endurance riding disci-
pline is one of the FEW events one can just come along practically at
the last minute and expect to be served,ie: get in on the competition.
I've done it myself, and if not stated otherwise, why not? Doesn't the
human mind take the path of least resistance? Anyhow, after helping to
manage, and managing, along with my husband, the FLORIDA ENDURANCE
CLASSIC RIDE(S) about 6 of them, and losing $$$, we are changing our
policy
on entries. Starting with our ride in '98 (7 March), we will have ALL
PRE-ENTRY/ NO POST ENTRY, with a closing date on 17 Feb. '98...there
will be a liberal refund policy and it will be stated on the entry form.
We endeavor to put on a class ride, and in doing so, have guessed at
how many entrants we might have, etc., and ordered stuff in advance with
no guarantee, and of course, this is how one loses $$$...the rides were
always well filled , but we had overspent...can't do that any more..I
need to know how many are "coming to the party"...then I can better
prepare for THEM and keep from going bannanas and broke..to tell you the
truth, I know that most riders will not totally understand this, 'cause
I wouldn't if I hadn't been on the management end, but you ask ANY ride
mgr., and THEY will understand...the franticness of the last week before
a ride is really too much when you're still wondering how many are com-
ing and the phone is ringing off the hook with inquiries, etc. and you
are getting more tired and more tired and the event hasn't even started!
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO APOLOGIZE TO ANY RIDE MANAGER
THAT I HAVE DONE THIS TO OVER THE YEARS...I DIDN'T KNOW!!!sorry.
Of course, there are always the last minute things..goes without saying,
but still taking entries cannot be a part of it for me/us any longer.
We will put on a first class ride; it will be worth the price of entry
and the trip...help us by pre-entering by 17 Feb.'98 (can overnight on
16th if you wish); no entries will be accepted after that date..no ex-
ceptions. The ride is the FLORIDA ENDURANCE CLASSIC 7 March '98 in the
Withlacoochee State Forest near Inverness (Citrus County) Fl. offering
1 day 100, 50 and LD 25.If you'd like to have an entry (as soon as they
are ready) post me with your snail-mail address and I'll gladly send one
along.
Again, thanks Dr. Newell for your input on ride refunds, etc.
