<< I have been led to believe, and observe, that the classic "tying up"
or Monday morning disease aka azatoria is not quite the same as what
endurance or CTR horses experience. >>
End-of-the-ride tying up is akin to human athletes' cramping, I believe. Low
fuel/electrolytes probably the cause. Still, with the massive muscles that DO
cramp, you get a much more severe result in the horse.
> I
have witnessed horses urninate coffee colored urine and exhibit minor
"tying up" symptoms, yet a blood test several days later did not
indicate that the horse truly "tied up". >
Myoglobin in the urine to the extent that it turn coffee colored indicates
massive muscle damage. There is no way that I know of that this would not
show up in a blood test that included muscle enzymes a several days later.
>Perhaps the difference is
in what causes the symptoms, too much food - no exercise or too much
exercise without metabolic "support".

The two are different, but the damage done is equivalent if there is dark
urine.
