Needful things

Hey, people are holiday shopping. I'm gonna throw my likes and dislikes
up here in a little more detail. Might help somebody's list. Would like
to hear others' ideas as well, got a few endurance riders to shop for.
I keep thinking that maybe I'll stop bleeding money on gear for Ember
and me, but I get howls of derisive laughter from my fellow riders when
I make such a suggestion .

Likes: the Biothane halter bridle from Sportack with no browband, though
we did have to use a "versalink" to make the throatlatch longer for
Ember's jowls. Snugpacks are wonderful, too, front and rear, the
insulation is great on the front bottle holders so frozen water bottles
are still cold mid-morning.

Easy Ride stirrups are great. Also the cotton web reins with stops and
Biothane ends from Australian Connection, think they're Stonebroke. Great
when my mare isn't listening in a snaffle. Yacht rope reins if she's in
a hackamore.

Neoprene girth from Ortho-flex, been using them for 6 years now, and
only got a gall the one time I didn't pull legs to get the skin folds
out from underneath.

Skito 1/2" poly/wool pad with the cotton duck cover, for breathability.
Washes up great. Gee, that was from Trail's End. Guess I'm spreading
the money around pretty well with the mail order vendors who support the
sport. :)

Oakley sub-zero sunglasses that don't slip on my sweaty nose.

On Course great synthetic gloves, come in lots of festive colors, not
too hot, and last forever.

smooth Bungee trailer ties used as outer trailer tie attachments for
horses that sometimes use their free time to think about pulling.

Ultimate see-through water bottles with the wide mouth and ring for
quick grabbing (and not dropping) on trail.

Gu and Powergel, no more gagging on dry stuff, it makes for shorter
duration snacks.

The worst:
The Cashel visor extendor from Sportack, worthless at any speed past
slow trot (it leaves), a total waste of money, at least when applied to
a Troxel Legacy. YMMV.

I like the lightweight Pro Choice splint boots, not the Quick Wrap ones
(too hot).

Thick cotton ropes with bullsnaps, like Ann said.
