Hi Stasia,
The problem is not so much the engine size or type, but of the rear axle
gear ratio.
The bigger the number, the lower the gear: i.e. if you have a 3:05 gear
ratio, you have plenty of high speed capability, but not alot of power up
hills. With a gear ratio up around 4:10 or so, the high speed comes down,
but the ability to climb hills at a faster speed increases. Putting on a
Banks turbocharger would'nt hurt, but if the gear ratio is a high ratio, you
will still see a problem.
To find out what size gear ratio is in your vehicle, on the drivers side
door frame should be a manufactures tag. On it, it should list a code for
rear axle type. Once you have the type, in your owners manual it will have a
chart that gives the gear ratio for that code. If you don't have the manual,
you should be able to call a Chevy dealer's (or whatever brand) parts
department and ask for the gear ratio for that code.
Hope this helps
