Here's some one rat results. I've done many miles on a curly mare.
There's a lot of rot out there about how a certain breed is hot or
intelligent or whatever. This seems to be no exception with the Curly.
The horse I rode was the same as any other horse with regards to
temperament and intelligence and was a shade on the unpredictably spooky
side and a little sullen. She was most definitely not enthusiastic about
long rides and her recoveries despite many miles were not much to write
home about. The American Bashkir Curly Club magazine at one point seemed
to indicate that higher heart rates were the norm in Curly'e though I
can't see why this would be. Everyone has to be special I guess.
In any case the job that this mare owner decided she was best suited to
was being a brood mare. So now there is a Curly yearling sharing her
yard.
