Gidday, I'm a young New Zealand author working on a book which involves a reasonably long horse trek over various surfaces. The distance involved is something in the region of 50km and is over a combination of sealed road, farmland and some rocky terrain. The ride would also be undertaken in reasonably hostile conditions (scarce food supplies, no veterinary care, etc)As a non-horseperson I don't have any idea about the way in which a horse (actually three horses) would react to such a ride, how long it would take and what the horse would need in the way of food, healthcare and rest. This is just a general description of my problem and I can be more specific if anyone is able to help me. If anyone is able to assist I would be very appreciative.
