Hi, I know of a horse, a miniature who died from eating only a few oleander
leaves. His owner was heartbroken she had just moved to a new property,
one bordered by oleanders and had been told that her horse would not try to
eat them. He did and he died. Oleanders are poisonous not only to horses
but also to dogs, cats (who thankfully don't seem to eat them much), and
children. They have high levels of oxalic acid. One leaf can kill a dog,
three can kill an adult human. If you need to discourage these people from
planting oleanders tell them about the danger to children who can be killed
by as little as half a leaf.
