Hi Glenda and ridecamper,

it turns out I have a whole list of comments I felt like sending out today
<bite the bullet a couple of times, push my luck>.....

Concerning the filthy winter coats I just wanted to share some experience
with you and others. A few years ago I used to work together with a
professional horse-trainer and it was the first time I realized that winter
that horses dry a lot faster if you wash off the sweat after the "work-out".
I totally agree with Susan's post about getting some warm water, sponge the
sweatiest parts of the horse, scrape the water off as well as possible,
very important part, because the better you scrape the water off, the
faster the horse is going to dry!!

Afterwards put a polarfleece-blanket on <can't you tell I'm a great fan of
polar-fleece> or a polar blanket with a woolen blanket on top, depending on
how cold it is, keep the horse out of the wind and let the him/her dry. It
is amazing how fast the horse will dry compared to waiting for a sweaty
horse to dry. AND you get rid of most of the salt-crust.....

Hope this helps,

Katja
