I just read something on the internet that
makes me sick. There is a sale on October 11th (according to what I read
on the net) that involves a bank and 400+ registered Arabian horses.
I am going to copy some of the emails I have received on this, I don't
know very many details, but here is some of what I have received.

<<Subject: Cabreah/Montebello-Plan?

Many of you may know of the pending auction of the 400+ horses involved
in
this partnership gone bad. Due to the nature of the sale and the fast
and
untimely date of sale the plight of these horses is urgent.

Please take a minute and read the following post submitted to Arabian
Chat
AOL. I have no pride in the details and if you have a better idea
PLEASE
feel free to make suggestions. I'll be off line for the weekend but I
can be
reached at 804-829-5426. I hope that's not a violation of terms but
these
circumstances are dire. The first sale is planned for Oct 11!!!!!!!!!!

Mary Ann Grimmell your thoughts are especially appreciated.

>>Okay guys I did a lot of soul searching about this last night and I'm more
upset today than yesterday. Collectively, we HAVE to do something about
this
disaster. I have an idea, and I know its "half baked" but we have to do
something FAST!

Thanks Amanda for putting some description to the numbers. Based on
what
Amanda furnished lets use some basic assumptions. If there are 90
weanlings,
lets hope (!) there are 90 yearlings, we know of 11 stallions and 13 two
year
olds, if there are 90 weanlings there must be 90 mares. That's 294
horses so
I assume that's close. Okay, lets put the ugly math to the numbers.
I've
estimated on the high side of the weight estimates.
90 weanlings @ 200 lb @.40 cents lb = $ 7200
90 yearlings @ 500 lb @ .40 cents lb = 18,000
13 2 yr olds @ 750 lb @ .40 cents lb = 3900
11 stallions @ 1000 lb = 4400
90 mares @ 1100 lb = 39,600
Total $73,100
Where do we get the money? IAHA, The Registry, The Pyramid Society and
Arabian Horse Trust! That's our money. Certainly emergency action
could be
instituted. How do we feed them? Assess each member of IAHA a one time
$50
fee. How do we ship them? Negotiate with the haulers already there.
If our
plan works they are coming home empty anyway. Nothing is worse for a
hauler
than an empty trailer. Where do we house them? Among us! Open your
hearts.
I can take one mare or two babies. Each of us can feed one more mouth.
Who
takes title to the horses? The Registry as Trustee for the members.
Ultimate sales proceeds go back to replace funds used for the rescue.
How
do we find these horses permanent homes? Get the immediate pressure off
and
get breathing room. Settle the WAHO dispute NOW. Convictions be
damned,
this is a catastrope of epic proportion. Open the available market to
the
world to place these innocents to their best advantage.

Who was it that said, "if we don't all hang together, certainly we will
each
hang seperately". Not only do we collectively have the blood of these
innocents on our hands we also have the entire breeds integrity and
ability
to withstand this market crisis to consider. Are we not the guardians
of the
breed? Well guys the wolves are at the door, lets get the guardian idea
out
of the motto phase and into the action phase. Time is short, the need
is
great and the alternative is unacceptable.

If we can't do this I suggest that there be a two minute moment of
silence at
the Nationals on Sat. night finals to remember the blood of the
innocents
shed on the slaughter floor. It was our choice to act as a group or
remain
locked in inaction pointing fingers at the other guy.

What say you?

<<Kitty, if you have access go to Awhitehorse or AOL Arabian board for
details.
I understand 300 horses at Montebello in Canada almost all straight
Egyptian
and 150+ in Texas at Cabreah are being sold at public auction to satisfy
one
or more investment bankers security interest. Meat haulers are having a
field day preparing for this one.

<<Carol,

I only know of what has been posted around the various sites on the net.
I
understand the horses are in fairly good shape. I don't know the
particulars
but I understand the sale is being forced by one or more investment
banks.
The horses are mainly breeding stock only and not rider friendly. The
plan
was to breed and produce to be able to take tax breaks under favorable
tax
laws. The laws are changing, the horses must go, investors choice not
the
record owners.

I'm told the Canda herd (300+) is without coggins test, further limiting
average buyers. The date and time is awful with a large part of the
Arabian
community focused on Albuquerque. I understand the horses are selling
without reserve. It has the strong potential to attract the meat
buyers.
Once the sale is done, it too late to question why it wasn't better
advertised.>>

<<Leslie,

A poster to another list advised sales list for both sales are available
at
Cabreah, phone 281-255-9727. I'm told the first sales is in Canada, Oct
11.
Lynda>>

And it just goes on and on. I'm also including a website that lists the
address and horses for sale in Canada.

I have even contacted KOMO TV, but as yet, no response. I guess it's not
a big enough story for them.

Sadly,
