Please take this with a grain of salt.
But, a smile came over me. When I read your comment. (Being the originator
of the questions of martingales, in order to make an educated decision, as
to whether it would benefit my horse and I. Believing one should
understand how equipment works, and using equipment in the wrong manner may
be detrimental to the well being of horse and rider. ) My thought is:
Don't be caught using a martingale, standing or running. Hide that bit.
In theory one should be able to communicate direction with leg pressure.
Stopping being controlled by our seat, we do not need rains with a
properly trained horse. My favorite gimmick is the saddle, pad and
blanket. We don't really need them............If we were really good
riders But Mr.POA and I can't.......(At this point)
I would like to thank the people for the information regarding the martingale.
The visual pulling on the rains with the shanked bit was eye opening.
Because I have been doing team penning and not understanding why so many of
them were using the running m (set very low , must be enormous pressure on
the jaw!!!!!!) I will not do the same, based on the information given to
me on this subject. From this information we understand the reason why one
might chose to use one.
If I decide to use the (gimmick) I'll be smarter.
Dottie I couldn't pass this one up. Keep smiling........
Sigrid
