That is a good question. I perfer a challanging ride. There are a lot of
people that seem to perfer a race track. On my ride we had to ride along a
fire break that for about 1/2 mile. It was rough - the only rough ground
in the entire 100 miles of trail. This was also stated at the riders
meeting.

Wouldn't you know it someone tried to gallop through, lamed her horse and
then complained about the rough section of trail! It would be interesting
to know the statistics of treatment for metabolic problems on rides where
the terrian forces the riders to slow down periodically vs. the flat fast
rides where riders could go as fast as they wanted the whole way.

My suspicion is as the speed goes up so do the metabolic problems - not the
mention the stress on the legs that ends up in having to retire a horse
because of lameness.
