EnduranceNet is stationed at Base Camp at Stevenson Ranch just south of
Bend Oregon.
The opening ceremony was held Thursday afternoon and everyone's horse
seemed to behave rather well considering the blowing flags and applause.
There was a beautiful demonstration of dressage on 2 Friesens. The rider
rode one horse but instructed both horses simultaneously - one right next
to the other. It was a unique demonstration. She handled 2 seperate sets of
reins - one in each hand. Brought a big o'lump to everyone's throat.
Here are some course stats:
1. Base Camp to Vet Check 1 (Swamp Wells) is 29km or 18 miles, followed by
a 30 minute hold.
2. Vet Check 1 to Vet Check 2 (East Rim) is 27km or 17 miles - total of
56km or 35 miles, followed by another 30 minute hold.
3. Vet Check 2 to Vet Check 3 (South Slope) is 19km or 12 miles - total of
75km or 47 miles, followed by a 15 minute hold.
4. Vet Check 3 to Vet Check 4 (Ogden) is 15km or 9 miles - total of 90km or
56 miles, followed by a 60 minute hold.
5. Vet Check 4 to Vet Check 5 (Paulina Lake) is 14km or 9 miles - total of
104km or 65 miles, followed by a 15 minute hold.
6. Vet Check 5 to Vet Check 6 (Swamp Wells again) is 26km or 16 miles -
total of 130km or 81 miles, followed by a 20 minute hold.
7. Vet Check 6 to Vet Check 7 (Horse Butte) is 19km or 12 miles - total of
149km or 93 miles, followed by a 15 minute hold.
8. Vet Check 7 to Finish (Base Camp) is 11km or 7 miles - total of 160km or
100 miles.
The race starts at 5 a.m. and we understand there will be ham radio
operators calling info into us at Base Camp, where we will do our best to
update you as often as we can.

We finally received the latest, newest and final list of riders!! I also
took the time (you are all welcome) to go around the grounds and personally
collect the information as to sex, color and breed. I hope you enjoy this
extra info and you can keep track of the stats as far as how many of which
color, sex and breed actually finish, etc. Have Fun!
