Please remember there is a Protest and Grievance Committee at AERC and =
one of it's responsibilities is to address issues of horse abuse. I =
served on that committee for quite a while, and I saw this come up only =
rarely. I believe it is appropriate for the members to use this =
committee to address abuse you actually witness.

Well written Ken!! You're exactly right in my opinion. You can bet
that the "You WILL run!" method of riding will be eliminated from more
and more rides as people start speaking out. I know I'm going to start
getting in some riders' faces and making a small scene in the future. I
WANT these idiots to be publicly embarrassed right at the time they're
committing the act. Maybe they'll go home and do their homework
properly to get their horses to go fast without whipping and kicking at
a ride. Apparently other people saw the same things I did at the same
rides and had the same reaction to it. I've received a few firsthand
accounts of abuse witnessed at rides I haven't attended as well. All of
them were from this area and at the really big rides. I've also been
told to keep it anonymous because some of the culprits are lurkers right
here in ridecamp. For you people, and you know who you are.... We're
not going to take it anymore!!! I, for one, will get in your face if I
see you wailing on your horse! An endurance ride is no place to be
acting like that. We have too many people watching and videotaping who
have the power to put an end to the sport if this kind of thing
persists. Okay, somebody else take the soapbox now.
Thanks, Nikki
