Best Condition award is not an award that is meant to be given to the best
condition of any horse at a ride, as some may wish. It is designed to be an
award given to one of the top ten competitors in an endurance race. And it is
meant to be earned by taking your horse to it's top competing level and still
keep it in the best condition of any of the top ten horses. This award is
generally won through alot of diligent work and effort, and is not meant to
be easily won. This does not mean that on occasion it does not go to the
wrong person, but the award is not for the person, it is for the horse,
weather we like the way that person rides or not. The system does work, I
know vets that work rides, and ride managers, and I think most would agree
that the present way of judging BC, is a good one. The bad riders do
generally get weeded out, even if they do win, or place in the top ten. I
have only known of one rider, personally, that has won or top tened a ride by
spurring and whipping her horse, and she was quickly eliminated from BC this
year when she won the ride, and last year at the same ride, and by different
vets. And yes I have ridden in the top ten, and I have shown for BC, and
never won it. But every time I felt that the horse that got it was deserving
of winning it.. The BC formula is a fair one, maybe not perfect, but fair. And
I think that if you want to get BC, you get up and earn it, the old fashion
way, you compete for it. And trust your vets to do thier job.
