I think one of the most important manners is to keep your horse a safe
distance from others. Even the best horses get irritated when they are
constantly tailgated and run up on from behind.

Another thing that I think is rude is when riders continue to scoop water on
their horses necks at the water trough while other horses are still waiting
to drink. Dunking dirty sponges in a clean trough doesn't win any points
either.

One of the rudest things I've seen is when a rider came unseated from his
horse, and the horse went down. This was early on in the ride, and some
people just could not sit still for a few seconds to see what the commotion
was all about, so contined to just plow thru the brush and go around the
injured party. The proper thing (IMO) would have been to wait a few seconds
for this rider to get back up, and see if he was hurt, and if the horse was
allright or not. The horse was already excited and frightened; the people
that plowed right on past did not help matters. If a placing is won or
lost because you stop to help somebody on the trail, does it really matter?

Of course I have seen a lot of people do extraordinary things for other
riders as well. Most riders are pretty courteous; and a lot of the ones
that aren't just don't always know.
