Power bars (the edible kind-not for computers!)

Hi, all:

On the world's wettest camping trip a couple of weeks ago we tried out a
'candy bar' called a Power Bar. We'd made a carry of gear from the sand
beach to the rocks (where the boat could get in with enough water to pick
us up)-an hour's carry wading through the rising tide before we were cut
off from our pick-up point. Then we had a 3 hour wait for the boat.
Huddled under a tarp on the rocks on the edge of the ocean in the steady
downpour. Even the best raingear in the group had leaked and besides
everyone had sweated rushing stuff out over the slippery rocks.

We went through the final hot chocolate, trail mix, etc. and still people
grew cold sitting there- and out from under the tarp the wind whistled and
the rain drove horizontally into your bones-there was no point in doing
callasthenics out there! Divided up 4 bars among 8 of us and they worked!
Definately helped keep our on- the- edge- of- hyothermia crew warm. The
strawberry one tasted liked oily fake fruit, chocolate was o.k., and banana
was quite good, don't remember the other-yes, we passed our littles nibbles
around for communal tasting-the heck with hygene when you are freezing and
trying to entertain yourselves!

So now I carry one of those as well as the bolt cutters, duct tape, etc. in
cantle bag on rides. Amazing-I would have said it was all hype, but it
isn't.
