1995 Feb. Equus -- where D. Bennett says racehorses are not built to ride
and shows how her own horses *are* suitable for riding.
... later that year in maybe the June or July Equus she mentions that
an ex-racing TB might be good for use as a hunter. (Really???)
1996 January Equus -- where D. Bennett shows 3 pictures of Arabs and
mentions that one type is good for Endurance, another for Dressage, and
yet another for Park Horse. Funny, the one that she says might be good
for Endurance is built like what she says is *race* horse build.
A better article was printed this year in the 1997 January Equus and is
called "What makes a good Mover?" Guess who's in it? Secretariat.
Another better article appears just a month or so ago in our very own
Endurance News... July 1997. For those of you who are not yet members
and don't subscribe, one place the same illustrations can be found is
a book I see in bookstores just about everywhere called "The Horse"
by Dr. J. Warren Evans, et al.
Equus magazine's name sake started his carreer on the Arab race track
and is now a successful endurance horse.
My point is that Race Horses are bred to be athletes. One of the things
they can do well is run. They can do many other things too... including
qualify for the USA Olympic Team, lest we forget.
