Mark your calendars and watch for entry applications for the Ride set
for AUGUST 8, 1998.
*************
The 43rd Anniversary of the Western States Trail Ride appears to be a
success, both financially and rider participation (except for a few
"snivelers").
Since entries were accepted on October 1, 1996 we received applications
from 296 riders. Seven (7) countries were represented ~ Japan, Germany,
England, Canada, Belgium, Australia, and USA. Eighteen (18) states were
represented. Of the 296 entries received, 212 (71%) said yes for buckle
and 84 (29%) wanted a certificate only. The stables were almost sold
out with 134 stalls rented with only 17 cancellations.
The Ride started 223 riders with 16 states represented. Three (3)
junior riders started. Riders wanting buckle awards were 160 (71%) and
those saving money were 63 (29%). Five (5) persons were so anxious to
ride that they paid the $100 late entry fee. The completion rate was
the lowest (48.88%) since 1991. Of the successful completers (109), 81
(74%) received buckles and 28 (26%) have a certificate to hang on the
wall.
Pulls on the Ride were a little different from the past few years:
Metabolic @ 22.81%, Lame @ 63.16%, Rider Option @ 9.65% and Overtime @
4.39%. Robinson Flat had the greatest amount of pulls ~ 32 (28.07%).
There was an unusually high pull rate at Dusty Corners ~ 18 (15.79%)
with most being for lameness.
