This drug is commonly prescribed to women undergoing hormonal therapy for
menopause. It is a derivative of horse urine. The method of collection of
the horse urine is cruel and completely unnecessary as there are synthetic
forms of this drug that are just as effective as the organic form.
Mares are on "farms," tied into small stalls which do not allow freedom of
movement or a way for them to lie down. The ground is usually unprotected
cement. They have urine collection devices (UCD) strapped to them which
cause chafing and infection. These mares are actually tied up in front and
strapped in from behind--they cannot turn around nor take more than 2 or 3
steps forward or backward. They are only removed from these stalls shortly
before birthing. The foals are fattened up and either sold for slaughter
in America or are sent to countries which eat horse meat. The mares are
impregnated again during their "foal heat" and are returned to their stall
for the duration of the pregnancy.
I personally find this practice to be extremely cruel and am trying to do
what I can to make other women aware of it. If you are taking this drug,
please talk with your doctor about replacing it.
