Tracy,

Your response on ridecamp caught my interest, as I am one of
the two developers of the Soft Rider Saddle.

Although to you may not be able to tell, the saddle is designed
with quality fittings and materials, and quality suede leather. It was
first and foremost intended to be a pleasure saddle, but I have
found (after two-plus years of riding one) that it's one heck
of a distance saddle. (It produces an even sweat pattern, no dry
spots, no sore spots, no bumps, no lumps....and my horses move
freely and rhythmically in it.)

The other developer of the saddle is a Tevis Cup rider (5 buckles, and
many more attempts!), a long-time farrier, and leather worker, who has
a good grasp of what can work in a saddle.
We designed the Soft Rider to solve two problems that riders sometimes
have: 1) problems with saddle fit due to a hard to fit horse's back;
and 2) problems with too heavy a saddle, making it hard for some
people (like me) to lift and properly seat a saddle.

Because of the flexible design, the Soft Rider fits just about any horse,
from extremely sway-backed to no withers, and just about everything in-
between. The McClellan-type girthing system (2 billets per side to
a single girth) allows positioning the girth where it needs to be. And
we provide a breast plate, girth, and stirrups. (I suspect that, contrary
to your statement, Ghengis Khan would have pillaged and plundered to
get his butt into one of these, if he'd had an opportunity! He, at the
very least, would have tried one before he summarily dismissed it.)

Last but not least, we offer a 10-day test period to all purchasers of
the Soft Rider. Use it (and I mean, really use it) for 10 days. If you
are not satisfied for any reason, return it for a full refund! THAT's
how much we believe in the product. We recently shipped two saddles to
the east coast (Florida and West Virginia). They and (according to them)
their horses could not be happier!

I suspect that the Soft Rider to some eyes may be a bit of an "ugly
duckling", but to your horse and your very own bottom, it's a pretty
darn comfortable and affordable swan! Feel free to email me directly
if you have any questions on something ole Ghengis truly missed out on.
