I am posting this to the list, because of a couple of non standard feeding
practices. I fit into the category of irregular. I feed hay in a roughly
2-3 hour window am and pm. On occassion, I will be well outside this
window. If I go out to dinner and don't expect to be home until late, I
will split feed the pm meal (normal is 8pm - 11pm) - put half out early
(perhaps 5) and feed the other half late (perhaps 1 am). If I need to use
the horse early in the am (e.g. had to leave with one of the horses for a
SAR mission at 5am - normal window is 8am - 11am), I leave dinner and
breakfast the night before - perhaps 90% is usually finished when I load
the next morning. Grain is a 12 hour window, but then they only get 1/4 lb
to feed vitamins - almost more of treat than a feeding. Only colic is with
a horse that is extra sensitive to spring pasture grass.
