your mare's hoof wall is breaking down from either being shod to close
or not being shod before the hoof over grows the shoe. Being shod too
close means the shoe is set under the wall and the wall is rasp down to
the shoe. The correct shoing permits the shoe to extend 1/16 to 1/8
of an inch beyond the wall this allows for the physilogical expansion of
the wall and normal transfer of the existing work forces up the wall and
leg.If the shoe is set under the wall the wallis then weaken from the
work foces subsequently cracking. Most blacksmiths underset the wall
because the foot dresses in a more fashionable manner in terms of the
show ring and because of their use the hoof can withstand
the stresses; however this is not true when going down the trail 20
