Timberon day 4

I thought there would be lots of Timberon stories; it was a great time. A
short story of Thursday, as for me it was quite exciting...feel free to
delete at this time.....
Lesson 1: Zinc Oxide does not prevent scratches
Lesson 2: You cannot tie to a trailer on multiday rides; your horse gets
too "stove up".
I gave FA AL BADI+ the day off Wed because, as a stallion tied to a
trailer, he was quite stove up, and let him use my friend's corral while
she was out. We had come to ride one day at a time, and hoping against
hope to get his Legion of Supreme Honor and 3000 miles...
Thursday, Bo's third day, he was a little off in the rear from scratches. I
told Barney I was going to walk and he suggested going with Trilby
Pederson. Now I have only seen the legend, never spoken with her, never
heard much about her except she has over FORTY THOUSAND miles and likes to
turtle. Would she condescend to ride with little ole me from Oklahoma?
Sure! Well, Trilby is a hoot! We had a great time talking about all the
people we both knew, and everything else under the sun! Both horses walk
very fast and the miles went by. One of the first things she asked me is
"why do you have a slicker attached to your saddle?" Hmm...I am used to
not having a crew.
Well right before the vet check the sky let loose and that slicker came in
mighty handy! I was able to put it over both my saddle and my horse's rump
and stand in the stock trailer out of the rain. Time to go. Fine. Then
the storm really blew in. It hailed like crazy. Trilby's horse wanted to
stop and put his butt to the wind. Mine wanted to get the heck back to
camp! The lightning flew all around us and the thunder was deafening in
the alpine meadows. Trilby's horse, Red, was afraid of thunder! I'd never
seen a horse afraid of thunder, and, coming from Oklahoma...
Trilby was a little unnerved by the lightning and asked how I could be so
calm? I think then she realized she was riding with a real nut because I
proceeded to tell her how exciting this was, and that last month I saw my
first tornado, and last July I was in a real hurricane, and the only thing
left is an avalanche (yep, been in a fire and mudslide and flood, too).
Anyway, mountain storms don't last long, and pretty soon the sun was
out...when what on the road in front of us did appear but a BEAR! Yipee!
I had been looking for one all week! To my surprise, Bo could care less.
He wanted to get HOME, and that bear was in HIS way!
To top off the long day, that was the day Bo got his points for his Legion
of Supreme Honor, but we are TEN MILES short of 3000. Maybe I didn't ride
him Friday so I'd have an excuse to keep riding him the rest of the season???
Happy Trails!
