Two factors seem to be coming together this year that should make this
possible. #1: We have a Tevis Web site to post the info on. #2: We
have a new data communication setup that employs packet data transfers.
In the past, because of the rugged terrain that the Ride crosses, cell
phones have proven unworkable. Short-wave units have been the main comm
link. Hopefully the new equipment will provide a reliable means to pass
the rider progress info along from point to point.
Bottom line: We *should* be able this year to post frequent ride
progress (leader board) info along to you via the Tevis web site and
have it be reliable and reasonably current.
The format will be similar to the list of Riders that is currently
available at http://www.foothill.net/tevis/RIDERS97.HTM --tabular
format, sorted by rider last name, giving rider#, rider name, and horse
name, followed by an in-time (or "pull") for each successive
checkpoint. Frequency of update may be a bit irregular early in the
day, but by afternoon I hope to have it updated hourly.
