Thanks everyone for their input about feeding at vet checks and beet
pulp use. Tina, a friends horse is turning his nose up at his regular
ride "slop" after several years of competitions. At her last ride she
broke down and gave him sweet feed at the checks which he willingly
ate. She asked me to query the group at ridecamp for input about feed
recommendations. The worry is wether the added sugars in the sweet
feed can be a problem.

Question: how long after consuming carbohydrates are they available
for energy? Roger's suggestion of using a carbohydrate supplement
that requires less digestion/processing sounds promising.

Question: if a horse has a regular high fat diet (such as ooil or rice
bran) does his digestive system learn to utilize it more efficiently
and will it actually be used during a ride?

for those that use b.p. at vet checks do you find your horses get tired of
it thru the course of the day? Our two almost act kinda like "oh no not that
slop again" :-) after a check or two then they just want whatever grain I've
got in there - often apples and carrots in it don't even interest them. They
both like b.p. normally but I guess it's too much of a good thing :-)

I find that I tend to let them eat whatever they will eat - even if it's
straight oats with some water in there.....they go thru very little hay at a
check btw
