My horse Porter gets scratches at every endurance ride.
He doesn't seem to get them on when we are conditioning, but
every ride they reappear. After a ride in May, Porter had them real
bad. I usually put the cortizone ointement/furacil/desitin mix but was
out of cortizone ointment and desitin. So - looking around my horse
medicine cabinet I saw some "White lotion" that the vet had given me to
prevent proud flesh from forming on a wound. So dumped all over the
scratches. Guess what - the scratches were completely gone the next
day. I didn't wrap it or anything. After Oakland this last weekend,
Porter had scratches again. The white lotion worked this time as well.
I don't know what is in the "White lotion" which is actually a liquid,
rather than what I would call a lotion. You may want to try it - I plan
to ask my vet what it is exactly.
