Hey Ridecampers...need your help! My name is Sharon Dolan-Truax and I
managed the Kiwanis Charity Kaper ride last fall held here in the
Gardnerville-Minden area of Douglas County known as the Carson Valley(CV)
The CV area has no trailhead for recreational muti-non motorized use.
(acually no trailhead at all!) We have the US Forest Service land in the
Sierras to the West and Blm land to the East (the ride was primarily on BLM
land) 2 yrs ago a group of horsemen organized the CV Access Community with
the primary objective of acquiring a trailhead on the west side openning up
the Sierras between this Valley and the Tahoe Basin, commecting to the Rim
TRail, as well as north-south trails. With the support of the American Land
Conservancy, the US Forest Service, the CV Access Community located a land
owner willing to sell 2 1/2 acres butting up to Forest Service land that
would open up the land described. Half the funds have been raised, the
Forest Service will build and maintain the trailhead. On June 5 we are
going to our Co. Commissioners for matching funds to make this purchase.
The opposition from the surrounding landowners is fierce as they don't want
people in their back yard!! BUT it is US land belonging to all of us and
that's where you come in.
Only one commissioner has an e-mail address, Jacques Etchegoin but he is
chairman and if you e-mail him, please ask him to pass your ideas to the
other commisssions. If you care to call any of the other commissioners,
they are Mr. Kelly Kite, (702) 267-2626, Steve Messinger, (702) 782-6293,
Don Minor (702) 588-8822, Bernie Curtis (702) 782-1970.
If you attended our ride or have visited the area (remember the old Capitol
to Capitol ride, also we're not that far away from Sqaw Valley and the Tevis
Trail...in fact the Tahoe Rim Trail mentioned above crossed the Tevis) tell
them you did and that you are anxious to come back for another visit to
*recreate) We are stressing that people coming into our area do much for
our economy and this is not just for local people.
Thanks for your help. P.S. I've been lurking on ride camp for several
months and do enjoy it. I rode my first ride in about 1971 0r 2. One day
I'll get to the AERC office and get all my milage under one name!!.
Sincerely, Sharon
