I ride a Morgan and I know several people who have had Morgans that
panted although mine does not. The one common factor that I have
observed about Morgans is that they simply do not cool their bodies
like an Arab. I pour more water over my Morgan than any other rider
(unless they too are on a Morgan). Panting is a cooling technique
which never seemed to bother the horses I saw doing it but it sure
gets the vets attention. Without question I would check the thyroid,
but I doubt this will change the panting problem. Morgans will go
beyond their metabolic capabilities because they are so competitive
so do not confuse that "bottomless" attitude with "endurance".
