Tina: You'rre not the only one! If I am hauling less than about 5 hours, I
don't worry about it. If more than that, I try to stop somewhere that the
horse can relax (NOT rest areas onthe interstate!) and offer him water and
the chance to graze for about 20 minutes. If he doesn't drink, which is not
uncommon, the grazing gets some moisture into him. I also sometimes put
carrots or apples in the feed tub in the trailer as he is more inclined to
eat these than hay, and again these contain some moisture.
As the old saying goes, You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him
drink...
They will do it when they are ready, and it seems to me water in the trailer
is more hassle than stopping to water them....besides, I've found mine has a
healthier attitude toward trailering when I give him a break, let him stretch
his legs, look around and sample the local cuisine....
