<< de-lurking shyly> I used to have a little Arab that I went on one LD
ride with an age ago, and I am now starting to nose around for another
horse to ride that I will probably be a lot more seriously interested in
campaigning in endurance. My question is this, what do you (you being
those who have a mare or mares they want to breed) look for in a
prospective stallion that you want to breed to? I far and away prefer to
ride male horses, and most of the horses that I have been looking at would
not be appropriate to geld, so I was wondering what you would breed to if
you had your 'druthers.

Ann,
Why do you prefer males? Why would the horses you have seen not be
appropriate to geld. We have always felt that something in the area of 95% of
colts should be gelded. SO far, we have kept none of our stallion's colts
entire, and 2 of them were really, really nice. Just not propagation quality
in our mind.

If we had our druthers - which we do - we ride AND breed AND have shown our
straight Egyptian stallion as well as a number of mares who are also breeding
stock. We keep no geldings, simply because our limited space requires maximum
productivity over the long haul from every horse we feed. And so, mares and
one stallion suit our needs just fine. i have to say that our mares are the
ultimate pleasure to ride. No marishness here!
