Then there are husband and wife teams. I was very honored to be able to
help out the Rojeks for a thrown shoe at Goethe after my husband
volunteered my services when I came into the 2nd vet check. I really
enjoyed meeting them in the pouring rain and being able to help them out so
they could go on together. I really beleive Steve has Dinah ride with him
to keep him on trail <g>. It really made me look forward to the time when
Tom will ride in endurance with me. What a great partnership. I really
admire couples like those two.
To get Tom to ride in an Endurance Ride though I have a couple challenges.
1. Tom is the BEST crew. What would I do without him?
2. I always let Tom know when he goes out riding with me (I beg) that he
is a resort rider. Let me explain: Tom's duties when we ride together:
Get in truck, get out of truck, ride horse, get off horse, sleep on way
home, get out of truck and go inside house to see what there is to eat.
Come outside to see if I'm finished yet.
Cindy's duties: Load truck and trailer, unload truck and trailer, get
horses ready, take care of Tom, go ride, come back untack horses and clean
up, load truck and trailer, get home unload truck and trailer , clean up
take care of horses and so on and so on.
But don't get me wrong, I love riding with Tom. The best part is when
later after everything is done Tom comes up to me and gives me a big Thank
you for taking him out and having a great time. What always cracks me up
is when we go out and he informs me he only wants to ride an hour. Yeah
right, never happens, he should know better by now. I don't ride 1 hour.
He should ask what hour are we coming back?
One couple who I really admire and thank a bunch are the Crespo's. Carlos
is very lucky to have the best wife. Lynn is always out there crewing for
Carlos and their son Daniel. But not only does she crew for them, Lynn and
her younger son Scott are always out on the trail offering water and
spongeing for everyone else on trail also. Lynn got me so conditioned that
at one ride I automatically veered toward her orange buckets when I came
into a vet check and Tom had to get me back on track. What gracious and
generous folks. I love Lynn to death because at Goethe she let me color
Easter eggs with Daniel and Scott. It was great fun. I don't beleive the
iron individuals that crew actually ever get enough credit that they
deserve and I just wanted to thank them very much.
Happy trails,
