Strongly suggest you use a proven hoof growth product such as
Farrier's Formula, Farrier's Magic, Farnam's H.B. 15, etc. The product
he suggested would be one that would aid a horse in utilizing what
they are fed to a greater degree, (I've used Opt-E-Horse for this
purpose) but doesn't include the typical ingredients that improve hoof
growth such as Biotin, Methionine, etc.

From personal experience, I've tried single ingredients on one TB who
needed better and faster hoof growth. 6 months on just straight Biotin
then 6 months on straight Methionine made no change. I then tried
Farnam's H.B 15 and saw a major improvement in growth and quality of
hoof. He grew so fast that he was on a 5 week shoeing schedual and the
new hoof that grew down (took about 9 months) was much more resilient
and dense.

You might want to try both. Also, if your horse hoof walls are
breaking up a lot around the nails you could ask your farrier if he
can go to smaller nails. It does less damage to thin walls.

Hi,

Has anyone heard of Fastrack? My ferrier just recommended it to me to
promote hoof growth and strengthen the hoofs. According to the package,
it is "a source of live (viable) naturally-occuring microorganisms.
(Streptococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus)." The ingredients
are: yeast culture (saccharomyces cerevisiae), rice hulls, calcium
carbonate, dried Streptococcus faecium fermentation product, dried
Lactobacillus acidophilus, Aspergillus oryzae, and Bacillus subtilis.
(?!)

My horse has trouble keeping shoes on up to eight weeks (has lost them
at five-six), but my ferrier says it's hard to shoe her at week six
because she doesn't have enough hoof growth, and that her hoofs need to
be stronger for the amount of riding I'm doing. A supplement may be in
order, but what do you guys use?

One person I asked (an ex-equine vet, now a small animal vet) said,
well, what kind of horse do you have; when I told him an arab he said,
well, arabs don't have feet. . . (??!!)

Thanks,

Eileen
