i saw the post on wondering what a heavyweight is.

as far as the aerc is concerned for competition - heavy weight is

a weight of 210 lbs or greater - including all the tack, fannypack,
stuff you wore(helmut).... on the ride. everything your horse carried.

you are allowed a 4 % variation downward on this - to 201.6 lbs -
to account for scale variation, sweating off lbs during the ride...

so at the end of the ride - if you weigh 202 lbs or more with all the
things you carried on the ride - and the things your horse carried -
you are a heavyweight....

you could weigh 160 and have a heavy saddle and fit in this classification.
or you could weigh 180 as i do - have a light saddle - and just barely make
it into the classification.

the weight classes are all defined in the rules section from
