Seeking input for draft FAQ

Hey folks,

After much procrastination I've started writing a draft FAQ for Ridecamp. This
is not on a "topic" like nutrition or training -- it is about the list itself.
It would be automatically sent to each new subscriber, and posted periodically.

The FAQ will cover such things as what is this list, who is it for, how do you
subscribe and unsubscribe, etc. It will include some basic definitions and
descriptions of distance riding and ways to contact AERC, NATRC, etc. for more
information. It will also include *guidelines* (not rules) for posting here;
what topics are appropriate or not appropriate, for example.

I can foresee at least two controversial areas: "Flames" and advertising. For
example, nearly everyone is comfortable with an individual posting a message
saying he has a saddle for sale, or a horse for sale. OTOH, I think nearly
everyone would be opposed to commercial advertising. The trick will be, where
do we draw the line and how do we word it? Personally, I think someone like
Teddy responding to a discussion of widgets that she recommends and sells the
"Acme Mark IV Widget" would be OK, but a post announcing a sale on widgets would
not.

Anyway, I'm looking for guidance on writing this. Any suggestions for what
should be included, and suggestions on how to deal with the flames issue, the
advertising issue, or any others that may be sensitive, will be much
appreciated. Please send me your suggestions directly to my e-mail address, not
the list -- discussion of the draft on the list will come later.

Of course, I will run the draft past Steph and Mike before posting it here, and
then we can all review it and modify it before it becomes "official."

Once again: *PLEASE* send me your comments privately, to my e-mail address, not
the list! My e-mail address is jlong@mti.net. Also, you can help me out by
being sure the word "FAQ" is in the subject header. That way, my mail reader
will automatically send it to the right folder.
