Friday was supposed to rain, well it didn't. It started raining early in
Sat morning. Great! Hopefully it would dry out soon. The riders started
out in the rain, but the rain did help to calm the sand down a lot. As
the day wore on, the weather broke and it turned into perfect weather for
riding!! I was in the vet check all day doing what I love to do the
most--telling everyone where to go!!:-) I got to see some very good
horses and got to chat with most everyone there!! that's my favorite part
about helping instead of riding. I really like to visit. Although we were
busy, busy thanks to all the riders that kept coming in from the
trail--they have a tendency to do that you know...send them out on the
trail, and they come back again!! go figure:-) I got to see and speak
with everyone all day. It was great!!
I took a new future with me this past weekend, and seeing all those
awesome horses has gotten him fired up to do his first ride. I'm still
answering all his questions about how things work, and hopefully he will
be able to go to more as his time permits. I do know that he is working on
his horse and should soon have her ready to do at least a slow LD ride!!
I met Brandy Doggett, a fellow ridecamper, as she got to come up and learn
all about how to time in and out. We really appreciated her being there,
and I think--hope--she learned a lot and had a blast enough to want to do
it again. She is another that was going home to get started on a
conditioning program!! This is what the sport is all about. meeting new
and interesting people and having a good time with the awesome horses that
we all seem to love so much!!
I learned that when management gives someone lacey red underwear one year,
they expect it to show back up the next year!! I just don't think he
expected me to "show" it to him the way I did--in front of the whole
crowd!! Wesley Crowe was silent for the first time in his life!! Hehehe
We had the best Vet Check crew in the world. With the best Timer in the
world. The ride went great, smooth as silk, considering there were 150
riders that started the ride, it was raining cats and dogs when they all
started, and thankfully, only one rider had a mishap on the trail, and it
resulted in only a broken finger.
If you guys ever get to the SE, and want a great ride for April, you have
to check out the Million Pines Classic!! It's a great time and a great
trail. It's well thought out and very well managed, by someone who rides
too, so it's run with the rider and the crews in mind.
the Saturday night awards dinner is the best in the country with
managements whole family getting involved, and you have never tasted such
good home-made chicken and dumplings!! Wesley chooses to give out
completion awards the night before the ride, so all that started got to
have a very nice T-shirt.
Overall, I can't think of a better ride in a while. There were enough
volunteers and the trails were marked so well, that no one got lost or
even considered getting lost!!
We had four vets so the vet check area, although congested some, was
actually fairly smooth running. I didn't hear any complaining from
anyone!! Now that's my kind of ride. The only complaint I had was not
being able to ride!!
