AERC MEMBERSHIP SURVEY RE. RACE PRIZE MONEY & AWARDS
SURVEY RESULTS:

Survey options:
A: I OBJECT to cash prizes and/or high dollar (over $1,000) prizes for
ride awards.
B: I DO NOT OBJECT to cash prizes and/or high dollar prizes for ride awards.
C: I would like to see a LIMIT on the amount of cash prizes/high dollar awards.
D: I prefer NO MAXIMUM LIMIT of prize money/awards.
E: I prefer that AERC create SEPERATE RIDER DIVISIONS:
"Amateur" (low prize money/awards limits) & "professional" (no $ maximum).

275 AERC members responded (representing 5.5% of the total membership of
approximately 5,000).
211 responded with only one option selected (77%);
64 responded choosing multiple options (23%).

Of those members choosing only one option:
132 choose A (63%)
34 choose B (16%)
18 choose C (8%)
9 choose D (4%)
18 choose E (8%)

Of those members choosing only two or more (multiple) options:
16 choose A + another option
43 choose B + another option
20 choose C + another option
34 choose D + another option
26 choose E + another option

Thus, the total number of selections for only one option combined with the
number of selections for two or more (multiple) options were:
148 choose A
77 choose B
38 choose C
43 choose D
44 choose E

What does this all mean?
63% of the membership responding to the survey object to cash prizes and/or
high dollar (over $1,000) prizes for ride awards as contrasted with 28%
(B+C+D) who do not object, some of which would prefer limits and some who
wouldn't. The number of members choosing to create seperate rider
divisions is very small at 8%.

Many members commented that, although they do have a problem with any
amount of cash awards, they do not have a problem with merchandise awards.

The AERC Competitions Committee has put together a proposal regarding rules
concerning cash awards that should be published in the next issue of
Endurance News. Please contact your Directors, both At-Large and Regional,
and Miki Cohen, AERC Executive Director, to inform them of your opinion(s)
on this proposal.

I appreciate the time and comments of those members who responded to my
survey. I invite you to contact me if I can answer any questions
concerning this issue or my survey that you might have.

Thanks & Happitrails!
Brad.
